GIS Professional

Position Summary

ImageCat, Inc., a small Long Beach company established in March of 2000, is currently seeking GIS professionals with strong database skills to provide support for our loss estimation consulting services.

The job will also provide an opportunity to work with satellite (SAR and optical), aerial photography and GIS data for cutting edge research and analysis. Supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the company's research focuses on the design of tools to better quantify the built environment and its exposure to risks associated with earthquakes,hurricanes, and other disasters.

Pay commensurate with experience.

Engineer with at least five years experience in risk analysis, loss estimation and computer programming. Experience with GIS systems a must. This position requires good analytical and research skills. Must be able to communicate effectively both written and orally.

• Develop simple and complex risk models for a broad range of facilities
• Develop probabilistic models to incorporate model and parameter uncertainties
• Perform system reliability calculations on simple and moderately complex systems
• Work with GIS specialists to create comprehensive relational databases
• Develop innovative ways of presenting and communicating the results of complex risk studies
• Present findings to audiences with a broad range of backgrounds and interests
• Publish research results in various forums (journals, conference proceedings)
• Some travel, usually short-term (a few days)

• Minimum MS in engineering; Ph.D. preferred
• Superior communication skills (written and oral)
• Prior consulting experience desirable
