National Science Foundation Team Deploys VIEWS™ for Thailand Post-tsunami Studies

Long Beach, CA - August, 2005. An International team lead by researchers from the University of British Columbia and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill recently deployed ImageCat’s VIEWS™ field data and visualization system to coastal Thailand, in order to assess tsunami impacts. Funded through the National Science Foundation, the team is studying the relationship between urban tsunami damage and pre-tsunami environmental degradation. VIEWS™ is being used in conjunction with high-resolution Quickbird satellite imagery and moderate resolution Landsat imagery from GISTDA to capture a permanent visual record of post-tsunami damage, the urban environment, and progress made with recovery operations.
