ImageCat Completes Comprehensive Seismic Evaluation of the Greater Vancouver Sewerage and Drainage District System

Long Beach, CA – January 2007. As a member of the Sandwell Engineering Team, ImageCat estimated the seismic risk to critical underground pipelines that make up the Greater Vancouver Sewerage and Drainage District (GVS&DD) system. The overall purpose of the project was to conduct an overview seismic risk assessment of the GVS&DD system, making recommendations on mitigating these risks, and identifying where more in-depth investigations and activities should take place. The GVS&DD operates and maintains approximately 500 km of sewer mains, 6 major river crossings, 33 pump stations, 5 wastewater treatment plants and an associated 3,949 manholes and 3,451 other fittings. ImageCat’s role in this project was to estimate the probability of damage or failure to all underground pipeline systems, and to calculate the projected number of repairs in a large earthquake scenario centered just south of downtown Vancouver. In addition, ImageCat provided GIS services in the production of numerous maps depicting damage throughout the study region. Other members of the team included Golder Associates and G&E Engineering.
