Earthquake Information

The Multidisciplinary Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (MCEER) publishes ImageCat, Inc. report: Methodologies for Post-Earthquake Building Damage Detection Using SAR and Optical Remote Sensing: Application to the August 17, 1999 Marmara, Turkey Earthquake.

Long Beach, CA - June 2004.  This report represents the culmination of several years of research by ImageCat Inc., undertaken to identify ways in which post-earthquake response and recovery activities can be improved with remote sensing technology. Qualitative and quantitative methods are used to characterize the location, severity, and extent of urban building damage using optical and SAR data. Combined with tools to extract building inventories from remote sensing data, post-earthquake damage detection will potentially expand loss estimation beyond database driven models.
