ImageCat awarded a Multi-year Grant from the National Science Foundation to Improve Urban Crisis Response

Long Beach, CA - September 17, 2003.   The National Science Foundation has awarded a $12.5 million grant to UC Irvine and UC San Diego to significantly improve how first responders, as well as key decision makers, share information and communicate during a crisis or disaster. The five-year project, called “Responding to the Unexpected”, will be managed by the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, Cal-(IT)˛, an innovation institute dedicated to envisioning and advancing new information and telecommunications technologies that can benefit the public. ImageCat will be playing a significant role in this effort serving as the project’s key industry partner. In addition, Ron Eguchi, one of the project’s co-principal investigators, will serve on a four member Executive Committee that will help guide research over the next five years.
