ImageCat awarded OES contract to develop mitigation tool for water, sewer and drainage systems

Long Beach, CA - May 7, 2001.   ImageCat has been awarded a contract from the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services to develop and implement a module change to OES' existing Regional Assessment of Mitigation Priorities (RAMP) software program. This program, originally developed by ABS/EQE after the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, is designed to facilitate the Hazard Mitigation Grant Process by evaluating the efficacy of mitigation measures on a regional basis. The current modification will involve expanding the program to assess seismic improvements to water, sewer and drainage systems. ABS/EQE is supporting ImageCat in this effort by developing new damage and cost models and testing the new module for several agencies in the southern California area.

URAMP (Utility RAMP) will be able to assess several kinds of losses, including repair of damaged facilities and losses resulting from fire-following damage. Included as part of the new software package is a module that contains the EPA program EPANET. Incorporating EPANET will allow a user to conduct both pre- and post-earthquake hydraulic analyses to identify areas that have experienced significant decreases in system pressure or flow.

Ultimately, this program will allow users to quantify how cost-effective different mitigation measures are with respect to reducing potential earthquake damage. The program has the capability of analyzing damage on a probabilistic basis or for selected maximum credible events. The final software package should be available in late fall of 2002.
