The Management Team

ImageCat’s Management Team brings a wealth of experience and creativity to risk management. Each team member brings a different perspective, including board-level, scientific, or professional committee experience, technical know-how, and a wide network of contacts, clients, and collaborators.

Ronald T. Eguchi, President and CEO

ron eguchi 2023 smallMr. Eguchi is President and CEO of ImageCat, Inc. He has over 30 years of experience in risk analysis and risk management studies. He has served on several Editorial Boards in the past including the Natural Hazards Review published by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Natural Hazards Research and Applications Information Center, and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute’s (EERI) Journal, Earthquake Spectra.

He is a past member of the following national committees: the National Research Council’s Disaster Roundtable, the Scientific Advisory Committee of the U.S. Geological Survey, and the Executive Committee of the ASCE Technical Council on Lifeline Earthquake Engineering.

He is currently starting a new committee for the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE that will encourage the advancement and application of information technologies in structural engineering. In 2006, he accepted an ATC Award of Excellence on behalf of the ATC-61 project team for work on An Independent Study to Assess Future Savings from Mitigation Activities that showed that a dollar spent on hazard mitigation saves the nation about $4 in future benefits for every dollar spent. He was recognized by EERI as the 2008 Distinguished Lecturer where he discussed the topic of “Earthquakes, Hurricanes, and other Disasters: A View from Space”. He has authored over 300 publications, many of them dealing with the seismic risk of utility lifeline systems and the use of remote sensing technologies for disaster response.

Charles K. Huyck, Executive Vice President

Charlie Huyck-33 (2)Mr. Huyck is a founding partner and has been the Executive Vice President of ImageCat since its inception in 2000. Charles Huyck oversees a diverse team of engineers, scientists, and programmers, fostering the development of cutting-edge software tools and pioneering risk assessment technologies that transcend conventional boundaries. Mr. Huyck’s 30-year experience encompasses a wide spectrum of disaster scenarios, ranging from riverine and coastal flooding to earthquakes, wildfires, hurricanes, and terrorism. Notably, Charles Huyck has led contributions to groundbreaking research in the application of Earth Observation-based applications for building exposure development, critical infrastructure data, and post-disaster damage assessments. He has authored over 75 papers and reports on risk modeling with GIS or remote sensing and has overseen or directly contributed to dozens of GIS applications for risk assessment and inventory development. Recent interests include characterization of recovery-time and supply chain impacts from acute disasters.

Shubharoop Ghosh, Vice President of Data Services

Shubharoop Ghosh provides strategic direction and leadership for ImageCat’s data products and services. Mr Ghosh is responsible for managing ImageCat’s diverse portfolio of data products and services, including US and international inventory databases, 3D-City models, PDQ, and an extensive library of remote sensing and field-based natural hazard damage data.

Mr. Ghosh oversees complex data development studies and processes for data management and delivery into the operational work flow of ImageCat’s broad client base, focusing on data solutions that are unique and useful in the global market place. Mr. Ghosh has a Masters degree in Urban Planning from the University of Southern California’s (USC) School of Policy, Planning and Development (SPPD).

William Graf, Vice President of Engineering

Mr. Graf is Vice President of Engineering and manages the SeismiCat seismic risk management system at ImageCat. He is a registered Professional Engineer (Civil) with more than 40 years of experience in structural engineering and earthquake risk analyses for individual buildings, portfolios, and lifeline structures. Clients include owners, lenders, property insurers and brokers, government agencies, municipal bond rating agencies and insurers.

Bill has investigated earthquake damage following many earthquakes, starting with the 1987 Whittier-Narrows earthquake. Bill is an associate member of the Structural Engineers Association of California, a Member of ASCE, and a member of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. He participates in ASTM subcommittees for seismic risk assessment of individual buildings and real estate portfolios.

Paul Amyx, Senior Programmer

Mr. Amyx specializes in the development and use of advanced technologies for risk assessment and reduction. His primary focus has been the development of software systems that incorporate GIS visualization and analysis. His responsibilities at ImageCat, Inc. include application development, GIS analysis, and system administration.

Paul has played a key role in the development of several software systems that have been used to collect and analyze field data after large disasters. Additionally, Paul has personally been deployed to collect field data in many instances, including aerial data collection during the 2007 Southern California wildfires and ground data collection after the 2010 Earthquake in Haiti. His more recent work has focused on the development of web mapping applications to provide specialized GIS analysis capabilities to government, insurance, and reinsurance clients.

ZhengHui Hu, Senior Programmer

Mr. Hu is a senior programmer at ImageCat, Inc. Mr. Hu has over 10 years of experience in software development, playing a key role in data modeling, architecture design, implementation, testing and deployment of software applications. He has expertise in utilizing cloud technologies for performance improvement of complex models. He is key in developing algorithms of software performing seismic simulation and loss analysis. He works with a wide variety of GIS technologies including off-the-shelf products from Google, Bing, ESRI and open source providers like OpenStreetMap, and specializes in integrating custom analytical models with GIS maps into an online interactive data analysis and visualization platform.

Yajie Lee, Director of Earthquake Risk Services

Mr. Lee is the Director for ImageCat’s earthquake risk services and oversees earthquake catastrophe model development. He has more than 20 years of experience in developing stochastic risk assessment methodology and analytical systems for use with earthquake risk assessments for individual buildings, building portfolios and lifeline systems. He specializes in probabilistic seismic hazard and risk analysis methodology, ground motion models, building vulnerability models, probability theory and statistical simulation method. He has developed the Robust Simulation method which comprehensively characterizes the uncertainty for a robust view of hazard and risk. He has also developed methodologies to quantify lifeline system resilience performance so that mitigation strategies to address known vulnerabilities can be identified and prioritized.

Mr. Lee has conducted numerous earthquake risk assessments for owners, lenders, property insurers and brokers to facilitate the risk financing, mitigation as well as investment decisions. Mr. Lee has double Master’s Degrees in Geophysics and Computer Sciences.
