Tropical Cyclone Ita made landfall in Queensland, Australia on Friday, April 11, 2014 as a category 4 storm. The cyclone came ashore near the town of Cooktown and skirted along the coast. No deaths or serious injuries were reported and damage to infrastructure was not severe. Major damage was done to the area’s sugar cane and banana crops, however, with initial estimates of damage standing at one billion dollars.
