Hurricane Francine came ashore in Louisiana on Wednesday, September 11 as a Category 2 storm. After quickly gaining power from warm water in the Gulf of Mexico, Francine made landfall in Terrebonne Parish and moved northeast, sending the eyewall of the storm over New Orleans. Ocean water surged into coastal communities and the storm’s heavy rain overwhelmed sewer pumps in some areas, causing street flooding. Hundreds of thousands of people are without power. Now a tropical storm, Francine is moving north, bringing the potential for flooding to multiple states.
