Chile M8.2 Earthquake

A M8.2 earthquake struck off the northern coast of Chile on April 1, 2014. The quake’s epicenter was approximately 59 miles northwest of Iquique. Hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated from the coast after the quake. Only a moderate tsunami was generated, however, with the largest waves of 7 feet occurring along the coast of Iquique. According to early media reports, damage was limited and there were six quake related deaths.
