More detailed data and analysis tools can increase understanding of hurricane exposures mid-season

Even in the middle of hurricane season, catastrophe risk managers can improve their understanding of their exposures through better data analysis, according to Gavin Lewis commercial director of ImageCat, a US and London based risk management innovation company.

Says Gavin, “We know that this is a critical period of the year for insurers with hurricane risks. Even as the season develops, insurers and reinsurers can benefit from having access to additional windstorm data. The better they can analyse their portfolios, the better they can advise regulators and shareholders. It reduces the risk of market volatility and pressure on capital.”

Data on probable intensity and extent of hurricanes in the North Atlantic and Caribbean from Kinetic Analysis Corporation, a leader in multi-model impact forecasting and risk assessment for catastrophic events, are now available on ImageCat’s data analysis platform, Inhance. Through Inhance, catastrophe modellers and underwriters can use Kinetic Analysis’ wind hazard data for the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico to examine the likely impact of a range of windstorm events on their portfolios in a simple and transparent manner.

To help provide detailed insight into the windstorm hazard data and how insurers can use them within the Inhance platform, ImageCat and Kinetic are holding two hurricane special webinars this month.

The UK webinar is on Thursday 24th July at 15.00 – 16.00 BST

The US webinar is on Wednesday 30th July at 13.00 – 14.00 EDT / 10.00 – 11.00 PDT
