Flooding in Malaysia, Thailand, December 2014

A very strong monsoonal weather system caused devastating flooding in eastern Malaysia and southern Thailand. More than 200,000 people evacuated their homes in Malaysia and 24 flood-related deaths were reported in the region. Some villages were entirely submerged. Electricity was cut and clean drinking water was scarce in much of the affected area. Overall the storm brought heavy rain to Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
