Tropical Storm Jangmi, December 2014

Tropical Storm Jangmi caused deadly flooding and landslides in southern and central provinces of the Philippines. The storm made landfall near the city of Hinatuan, on Mindanao Island’s eastern coast early Monday, December 29. Jangmi continued to sweep across the island chain in a westerly direction, before weakening on Wednesday and moving over the southern Sulu Sea.  Over 80,000 people from Surigao del Sur, Bohol, and Cebu provinces were evacuated, but other areas were not prepared for the storm. The death toll is currently 53.
