California Fires, August 2015

03 Aug 2015

An official State of Emergency has been declared as 19 fires burn across California. The Rocky Fire in Northern California is the largest, having burned over 69,000 acres of land. Firefighters have the fire about 40 percent contained. The fire covers land in Lake, Colusa and Yolo counties and is threatening 6,300 structures in the town of Clearlake, population 15,000. It has destroyed 43 homes and 53 outbuildings.

Most of the fires were caused by lightning strikes. Officials have warned that the ongoing drought in California will result in more severe wildfires this fire season.
