M6.2 Earthquake, Central Italy, August 2016

A M6.2 earthquake struck central Italy at 3:36 am Wednesday, August 24, 2016. The quake’s epicenter was southeast of Norcia. At least 250 people were killed in the event, with strong aftershocks hampering rescue missions.  Worst affected towns are Amatrice, Arquata, Accumoli and Pescara del Tronto, Accumoli was heavily damaged and Amatrice was largely destroyed, the towns together suffering the majority of fatalities.
