M8.2 Earthquake in Mexico, September 2017

Late Thursday night, September 7, a magnitude 8.2 earthquake, the most powerful to hit Mexico in a century, struck off shore of the country’s southern region. The quake was felt strongly in Mexico City, but the substantial damage is in the southern states of Chiapas and Oaxaca. These areas are remote and reports of damage are preliminary. As of Friday morning, at least 58 people are reported killed.
