Wildfires in Greece, July 2018

24 Jul 2018

There are five major wildfires burning in Greece. Two largest fires are located near Athens, one to the east and the other to the west. There are fires near Corinth and in Crete as well. Entire towns have been devastated and at least 74 people have been killed.

Some areas of the country received little rainfall last winter. Dry, hot weather this summer coupled with strong winds have created conditions very favorable for fire.
