Severe weather system, central U.S., May 2019

A multi-day severe weather system brought heavy rain, damaging winds, and tornadoes to large swathes of the U.S. Plains and Midwest regions. An outbreak of at least 29 tornadoes occurred in Missouri the night of Wednesday, May 22. The largest of the twisters, with an estimated E3 rating, touched down in Jefferson City, MO, causing extensive damage. Eight deaths resulted from the outbreak.

Earlier in the week heavy rain from storms caused flash flooding, particularly around Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Approximately 60 tornadoes were reported from Monday into Tuesday in the region as well.
