Approximately 300,000 people have been evacuated from the Indian coastline of Gujarat as Tropical Cyclone Vayu approaches. The storm is not expected to make direct landfall, but to skirt along the northwestern state’s coastline, bringing heavy rain, wind and storm surge to the area beginning Thursday morning. Hurricane-strength tropical cyclones are rare this far north in the Arabian Sea.
