M7.1 earthquake, Ridgecrest, CA, July 2019

The largest earthquake to shake Southern California in the last two decades occurred on July 5, 2019. The M7.1 quake was centered near the town of Ridgecrest in the Mojave Desert. There a M6.4 foreshock on the previous day and there have been thousands of smaller aftershocks in the days following. Fortunately, there was no major damage to buildings and infrastructure and there were no fatalities.
