Yajie Lee presented at the 11th International Exchange Forum: Seismic and Multi-Hazard Preparedness and Response Practices for Drinking Water Utilities, October 9-11, 2019 in Los Angeles

30 Oct 2019

Yajie Lee, ImageCat’s Director of Earthquake Risk Services, was a presenter at the 11th International Exchange Forum: Seismic and Multi-Hazard Preparedness and Response Practices for Drinking Water Utilities, held October 9-11, 2019 in Los Angeles, CA. The conference convened researchers, experts and practitioners from the United States, Japan and Taiwan, and covered a wide variety of topics such as state-of-the-art earthquake resistant designs, inter-sector dependencies, mitigation of multi-hazards and extreme events, system risk and resilience assessments, and best practices for preparedness, response, recovery. Mr. Lee presented his innovative approach of evaluating pipeline system risks, and the results of assessing the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) water pipeline network’s expected performance in future earthquakes. Comprehensive impacts resulted from ground shaking and ground failure were assessed for potential pipeline damage, repair cost and repair time. The various outcomes are expected to help quantify system resilience measures, identify vulnerable components, and prioritize risk mitigation strategies to meet the short- and long-term objectives of the City of Los Angeles’ seismic resilience program.
