The Mosquito fire, Northern CA, September 2022

The Mosquito fire is currently the largest wildfire in California. The fire, which started on September 6, has burned over 64,000 acres of land in the Sierra Nevada mountains, west of Lake Tahoe in El Dorado and Placer Counties. More than 64 structures have been destroyed. Over 11,200 residents have been evacuated and the blaze is currently threatening 9,000 structures. Fire crews have been able to gain 20 percent containment.

In addition, harmful smoke from the fire is widespread, and setting off air quality alerts across parts of California, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
