ImageCat was a major sponsor and was pleased to participate in the Understanding Risk 2022 Conference, held from November 28th to December 2nd, 2022, in Florianópolis, Brazil. The theme of the conference was Riding the waves of risk, focusing on climate and disaster risks in a multi-hazard world. ImageCat had a strong presence with two chaired sessions and a live event at the booth. Ron Eguchi was the session lead and Shubharoop Ghosh moderated the round table discussion titled Connecting the Dots on Multi Hazard Risk Management. In this session, panelists from the Government of Philippines, the Coordination Center for Disaster Prevention in Central America and the Dominican Republic (CEPREDENAC), the World Bank, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, and the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility shared lessons, best practices and use-cases on multi hazard risk across sectors, governance levels, and regions.

UR 2022 Connecting the Dots

Shanna N. McClain of NASA and Charles K. Huyck of ImageCat led the session titled Simplifying Decisions with Indices in which speakers from the Center for Disaster Prevention in Central America and the Dominican Republic, the World Bank, ImageCat, and World Bank/GFDRR discussed the potential benefits and drawbacks of an index-based approach, as well as how to move from indexes to action. The EO-based Global Economic Disruption Index (GEDI) was presented and discussed, along with other global indices.

UR 2022 Simplifying Decisions

ImageCat hosted a special event at the Expo Island ImageCat Booth which was also accessible online through #UR22 ImageCat Virtual Booth. The session titled How technology can break through the barriers preventing vulnerable communities from accessing insurance featured Shubharoop Ghosh from ImageCat and Tim McCosh from Yokahu. This event was moderated by Sue Barenbrug from ImageCat.
