The Emilia-Romagna region in northern Italy is experiencing widespread flooding. Eight people have been killed and 13 thousand have been evacuated after heavy rainfall caused riverine flooding and mudslides inland, and rough surf along the coast. Fourteen rivers in the region have reportedly spilled over their banks.

The intense rain is stopping, but river levels are still rising. The region had been suffering from drought for years.
