ImageCat participated in and presented at the Spring 2023 Tactical Fire Remote Sensing Advisory Committee (TFRSAC) meeting on April 19th-20th 2023, hosted at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View California. The TFRSAC is a longstanding community of practice composed of fire management practitioners, remote sensing scientists, GIS specialists, and industry and university affiliates to formulate a tactical fire information gap analysis and prioritize development and transfer technologies related to those gaps.

ImageCat is currently leading two projects funded by the NASA Applied Sciences Wildland Fires Program. The first one aims to develop a novel Community Wildfire Vulnerability Index using data derived from Earth Observation (EO), wildfire hazard maps that define WUIs, building-level damage or vulnerability functions for wildfire damage, and community wildfire planning and design tools to help communities and other public and private stakeholders prioritize wildfire mitigation strategies. The second one, “FireCapture” introduces for the first time the use of the famous online hCaptcha anti-bot solution to let the global human internet community generate a very large number of labels on satellite wildland fire imagery to identify active fires, burned areas, and smoke to help generate much better transferable ML models for reliable, real-time delivery of intelligent analytics for the wildland fire end-user community, first responders and medical emergency teams.
