Two M6.3 earthquakes in Afghanistan, October 2023

Two large earthquakes struck Afghanistan near the city of Herat this week. Both quakes measured M 6.3, the first on Saturday, October 8^7h, and the second on the 10^th. Over one thousand people were killed and another sixteen hundred were injured by the initial earthquake which destroyed entire villages largely consisting of mud-brick homes. The impact of the second quake is not yet determined.
